Many parents and potential students that get in touch with us ask us whether we think that online tuition is as good as traditional ‘face to face’ tuition…
We decided to put this question to our tutors and our current students, and here are some of their thoughts:
‘Learning online gives me a much wider choice of tutors, I live in a rural area and I don’t think there is a local Spanish tutor that would be able to come to my house.’ – Student
‘I teach A level Physics at Sixth Form College and by the time I’ve travelled home I’m not keen to go out again but I’m happy to teach for an hour or two online – I really enjoy my evening sessions! – Teacher
‘My daughter is Autistic and she finds online sessions more comfortable than having a teacher come to our home, I don’t think she would be as relaxed otherwise.’ – Parent
‘To be honest I like the fact that I don’t have to tidy the house and clean before the lesson each week! I just move toys/laundry/pets out of sight of the webcam while P sets up her laptop and we are good to go!’ – Parent
‘I thought this was an odd question as I do think of our lessons as being face to face. I feel like I have a good rapport with my tutor and the fact that he doesn’t have to travel here is good for the environment. (Also he lives more than 200 miles away!)’ – Student
‘J has a local tutor for English, that comes in person, and an online Maths tutor. There are benefits to both sides but I like the wider choice that comes with the online tuition – J’s maths tutor is fantastic and I’m not sure we could have found that expertise locally.’ – Parent
As you can see, the response was very positive re online learning. The only response we received that expressed reservations was from a parent whose son had recently completed his A levels – she expressed regret that they were not able to meet their tutor in person to say thank you as she had played a big part in ‘the A level years’.
What do you think? Do you prefer tuition online or in person, and why? Drop us a line on our contact page – we’d love to hear your thoughts!
